This original 1970’s ranch house was completely renovated as a guest house for a beautiful compound located in Rustic Canyon. The timelessness and adaptability of the ranch house is exemplified by replacing the original dark wood and enclosed spaces with contemporary appliances, materials, furnishings, and colors to take advantage of the incredible surroundings and adjust to today’s lifestyle. The change was simple but effective. Indoor-outdoor relationships become seamless by changing out the wood windows with new window wall systems and sliding doors in an updated anodized aluminum. The concept of garden “living” rather than “viewing” gave the home a fresh new feeling of openness. The garden is illuminated at night to be carefully balanced with the interior to give the effect of continuous indoor-outdoor space after dark. Respecting the original forms and materials, this home was transformed to display an amazing art collection and create a modern space for entertaining.
